Jung Yoo-jun, a qualifier, made headlines by taking the solo lead in the opening round with a bogey-free 6-under 65.
Having narrowly secured his place in the field by finishing 32nd in the final qualifier, Jung opened the possibility of becoming the first-ever qualifier to win the Korea Open.
Known for his long drives—ranked 3rd in KPGA’s driving distance—he paired power with precise putting on a narrow and demanding course.
Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai and Australia’s Jed Morgan tied for 2nd at 4-under. A group of players, including national team amateur Kim Min-soo, Wang Jeong-hun, Yoo Seong-gyu,
and Thailand’s David Boriboonsub, finished tied for 4th at 3-under.

Yoo Seong-gyu surged to the top of the leaderboard with a 4-under 67, bringing his total to 7-under 135 and taking a 2-shot lead over Phum Saksansin of Thailand.
Yoo, who made his KPGA debut in 2015 and returned last year, is targeting a full tour card and a spot at The Open Championship.
His iron play shined with an 88.89% GIR (greens in regulation).
Amateur Kim Min-soo continued to impress, tied for 6th at 2-under. Jung Yoo-jun, Wang Jeong-hun, and others were tied for 10th at 1-under.
The round also saw a highlight from Moon Do-yeob, who made the tournament’s 24th hole-in-one on the 201m 8th hole with a 5-iron, earning a massage chair as a prize.

Thailand’s Phum Saksansin claimed the solo lead at 7-under 206 after a steady 2-under 69 in Round 3.
The four-time Asian Tour winner is chasing his first win in over a year and said, “The course is tough, but I’m trying to overcome that to get into The Open.”
Fellow Thai Sadom Kaewkanjana moved to second place at 6-under. Yoo Seong-gyu, who had led after Round 2, dropped to 3rd after a triple-bogey at the 16th and a round of 74.
Kang Yoon-seok held solo 4th at 3-under, while Kim Ki-hwan and a surging Jeon Garam rounded out the top contenders.

Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana captured the championship with a total score of 7-under 277, earning the ₩500 million winner’s prize, a spot in The Open, and 5-year KPGA + 2-year Asian Tour exemptions.
He became the first international winner in six years since Jazz Janewattananond in 2019.
Starting the final round one shot behind, Kaewkanjana wobbled early with bogeys but sealed the victory with clutch birdies on holes 12 and 16.
Saksansin finished runner-up at 5-under, and Yoo Seong-gyu placed 3rd at 3-under.
Korean national team player Kim Min-soo shared 4th at 2-under to earn Low Amateur honors, while Taichi Kho (Hong Kong) carded a final-round 64 to join him in a tie for 4th.
